PRODUCT FEATURES

How ExamN Works

ExamN empowers educators by creating web based assessments and aligning them directly to their state standards. Its assessment management functionality automatically gathers test results, stores the date, and creates comprehensive reports for individual students and on a school or district wide basis.

Question Bank

ExamN provides test archives and question banks to aid in the assessment and test creation process. Creators can quickly search for existing assessments and questions by school and subject. They then pick the questions they want and insert them into the test.

Categorization: Organizes questions and tests based upon category, subject, school, grade level, complexity, etc. Then allows the user to search for questions based on the category.

Question Reuse: Copies existing tests and assessments to quickly duplicate all questions and then customize it as you see fit. Reuses existing mathematical equations with the option to modify the variable ranges and change the possible answers.

Standards Alignment: Defines questions that align with your school, district, and state assessment standards.

Limited Access: Maintains an accurate question bank by restricting who can insert questions into it. Ensures correct answers by using existing questions from the accurate question bank.

Question Formats: Includes questions of all formats and types such as multiple choice, fill in the blank, and essay questions.

Test Creation and Management

The Test Management interface allows teachers to view the test questions as they will appear to the end user. From one simple interface they can add, update, and delete questions as well as customize the look and feel of their tests.

Test Categorization: Categorizes tests by school, grade level, curriculum area, and subject.

Time Frames: Assigns time frames that the test will be available to student groups or individual students.

Retake Management: Allows the teacher to define the number of retakes allowed for each test or a minimum score required.

User Friendly Interface: Builds tests through an extremely user friendly interface that customizes the layout based on the teacher's preferences.

Security: Extensive security structure gives teachers access to only see and manage their own tests.

Question Formatting

With ExamN teachers have all of the question formats that they would have when creating a hand-written test. It includes formats such as multiple-choice, true and false, short answer, and essay. ExamN’s equation builder helps create complex equations and even has a random numbering option to create tests with different numerical values in the question and answer. For mathematical problems, test creators can define the precision to which the answer must be correct to account for rounding differences. For each question the test creator is able to define how the question will look, points per answer, whether to use automatic grading, and any images or diagrams associated with the question.

Question Formats: Multiple-choice, true / false, essay, short answer, and more question formats.

Points Allocation: Assigns points to each answer allowing for partial credit.

Grading Details: Defines which questions to automatically grade and which to manually grade.

Random Numbering: Creates tests with random numbering of questions.

Equation Builder: Inserts complex equations and automatically calculate a precise answer. Automatically validates your answer equations for missing parentheses and brackets and invalid characters.

Calculation Precision: Defines the precision to which the answer must be correct allowing for variations due to rounding.

Random Variables: Generates numbers / variables within the test equation randomly so each time a student takes a test, the numbers will be different. Assigns different ranges and increments for each of your random numbers increasing the possible combinations and decreasing the ability for students to copy answers.

Multiple Choice: Creates multiple choice questions with either dropdown boxes or radio buttons to vary the look and feel of your tests.

Answer Validation: Adds short answer questions with answer format validation for integers, floating point numbers, etc. to ensure easier and more accurate test grading.

Essay Questions: Uses large text areas for essay questions to allow extra space and provide better formatting.

Images and Graphics: Adds a diagram or image to any question and separate images to each possible answer allowing you to have completely graphical questions and answers.

Online Testing

The web based application provides users with anytime, anywhere access to tests and assessments. It allows teachers to create test-taking groups. Each group can be assigned its own date range to take the test and number of retakes for the test. This allows students to take tests over a period of time and then provides them with the opportunity to improve their score through retakes.

Test Assignment: Assigns multiple students to take tests in a given time period, limiting who can take the test and when it can be taken. Automatically puts tests in the student's test queue based on assignment and date range so that when they login, they see all of the tests assigned to them.

Testing Groups: Creates multiple test taking groups so that students / classes have the test available at different times.

Tracking: Knows at any given time who is assigned to take a test and the last date it will be available for them. Displays in the student's test queue the number of times the test has been taken along with the number of available retakes.

Retakes: Gives the test to a set of students then allows them to retake it at a later time or provides students with the opportunity to immediately retake the test in order to improve their score.

Reporting & Data Exporting

ExamN includes comprehensive reporting functionality for classes, students, student groups, assessments, and individual test questions. Each report has multiple views and links directly to the student's actual tests. Report results are available for both printing and exporting. The exporting feature allows you to easily export data from any report to view and use in other applications.

Reports: Generate reports for classes, student groups, entire assessments and more.

Responses: View all given responses for each test question per student.

Question Summary: View a summary of results for each test question and automatically calculate the frequency of each answer given for the question.

Grade Summary: Access grade summaries for each of your students with automatically calculated percentages for each test taken.

Score Summary: View a scores summary for any test with points possible and points achieved broken down by each test.

Automated Grading

ExamN's automatic grading functionality grades the tests as they are taken and has the option to give students their results as soon as they finish an online test. Teachers can designate which questions to automatically grade and which questions require manual grading. The system keeps track of the tests that still have questions that need to be graded. Once the test has been graded by the system, the teacher can manually grade questions as well as modify the points awarded for each test question.

Partial Credit: Assigns points to each possible answer allowing you to give partial credit.

Correct Answer: Allows you to provide the correct answer or, for equations, the system calculates it for you.

Precision: Defines the precision to which numerical answers must have to be considered correct. Assigns precision as an absolute value or as a percentage to allow for rounding.

Manual Grading: Allows teachers to go through tests and allocate points to manual graded questions and the system recalculates the overall score. Allows teachers to manually adjust points to any pre-graded question.

Automatic Results: Gives students the ability to see their scores for automatically graded questions. Automatically displays whether the student received full, partial, or no credit for each test question.
